Dogs pant to cool down, but sudden, heavy panting while your dog is at rest isn't normal. It can be the first sign of pain, anxiety, respiratory distress, or even heart issues.
If they haven't been running around and the room is cool, observe their posture, note if it's relaxed or tense. Take a closer look at gum color, bubblegum pink is normal. If your dog's breathing fails to normalize after 15-30 minutes or worsens, bring your dog to the vet.
